Know Before You Go

Plan ahead to take advantage of Utah’s many hunting possibilities, and be sure to check out all the rules and regulations to ensure a legal hunt.

Licenses

Before venturing out, be sure to obtain the necessary licenses and permits.

In Utah, you may need both a hunting license and a hunting permit, depending on which species you would like to hunt. Be sure to check out the rules to learn just what you need. Combination hunting and fishing licenses are also available.
The Utah Hunter Education Program offers courses on how to safely and effectively hunt and is required prior to purchasing a hunting license or applying for a permit.
Popular hunts require entering a hunt drawing for a chance of obtaining a permit.

Rules and Regulations

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources offers detailed guidebooks with all the information you need to plan your hunt. Download PDF versions online or pick up free printed versions at your nearest Division office or license agent.
The Utah Hunt Planner is an interactive mapping tool that includes hunt boundaries, biologist recommendations and updates, land ownership and accessibility details, ATV trails and more. It's a great resource if you're planning a hunt in a specific area or need some help identifying which Utah hunting unit to apply for in the hunt drawing.

Hunting with family and friends is unforgettable, but hiring an outfitter takes your hunting trip to a whole new level. These knowledgeable experts provide information about the land and wildlife that inhabit it and have an in-depth understanding of the local game species.

Select an outfitter in the area where you would like to hunt to take advantage of local knowledge. Many outfitters also provide gear rental if you need additional equipment.
