Relax, reset and raise a glass to celebrate love. Picture you and your partner eating a locally-sourced dinner beside a cozy fireplace at a European-inspired mountain inn while snow falls outside. Or imagine treating yourselves to a well-deserved spa day after a Southern Utah desert hike. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, a birthday or a ‘just-because’ trip, Utah offers romantic getaways for every type of traveler.

Mountain Resort Getaways for Couples

A mountain resort overnight is undeniably romantic year-round. Imagine summer strolls, winter ski dates, fall mountain bike rides or springtime solace after the ski season crowds dissipate. No matter the season, a romantic mountain resort getaway centers around the all-in-one convenience of cozy lodging, candlelit dining, and alpine activities.

Luxe Resorts for Romance

Book an extended weekend at a high-elevation resort. Find big-brand Park City hotels including Waldorf, St. Regis, Grand Hyatt, and only-in-Utah boutique experiences like Stein Eriksen Lodge and Goldener Hirsh. Cottonwood Canyons' lodging options offer ski-in/ski-out staples such as Snowbird’s Cliff Lodge, The Inn at Solitude and The Snowpine Lodge at Alta. Or find on-mountain romance at Sundance’s modern cabins or Ogden Valley ski resort inns.

Date Night Ideas for a Mountain Escape

Mountainside resorts pair pine forests and fresh air with refined activities like spa time, gourmet cuisine and fireside chats. Warm weather brings easy access to beer and dining festivals, outdoor concerts, scenic chairlift rides and outdoor patio dining. In contrast, the snowy season brings skiing, sleigh rides, patio hot tubbing and aprés ski merriment.

  • Book spa time at Snowbird’s Cliff Spa or The Lodge at Blue Sky near Park City.
  • Reserve a table for two for yurt dining at The Yurt at Solitude Mountain Resort or The Viking Yurt in Park City.
  • Walk hand-in-hand along Park City’s Historic Main Street. Shop local art at Gallery Mar and adventure apparel at Salt Lake City-based Cotopaxi. Indulge in local fare— from lobster rolls (Freshie’s) and distillery dining (High West Distillery & Saloon and Alpine Distillery) to revered favorites, such as Riverhorse on Main, The Spur Bar & Grill, Shabu and No Name Saloon & Grill.
  • Trade ski boots for slippers and a romantic mid-mountain lunch at Alta’s Collins Grill.
  • Take your pick of bowling and burgers, caviar and charcuterie, a sunset Champagne sabering or stand-up paddleboarding at Deer Valley Resort.
  • Book an alpenglobe experience at Stein Eriksen Lodge or Grappa Restaurant in Park City, or Café Galleria in Midway.
  • Take the Snowbird Tram to The Summit and dine at 11,000 feet.
  • Drive the Alpine Loop (especially great for fall-peeping) near Provo, then enjoy award-winning mountain cuisine at The Tree Room at Sundance Mountain Resort, a rustic cabin built around a real tree.

Red-Rock Romantic Getaways

Few places in the world flaunt sandstone skyscrapers, slot canyons, hoodoos and arches. Utah's Mighty 5 national parks — and their nearby state parks, national monuments, recreation areas, golf courses and gateway towns — boast year-round ways to rev up a romance for the outdoorsy couple and indoorsy twosome. Whether hitting up world-famous mountain bike trails or snuggling up by a campfire roasting marshmallows, there’s no better way to experience this otherworldly desert landscape than with your favorite person.

Desert Hotels and Glamping Resorts for Couples

Creating core memories as a couple starts with a wow-factor desert destination. Mild weather and plenty of sunshine provide year-round enjoyment, but our best tip is to hit up Southern Utah in the winter when hotels and trails are the quietest.

A handful of hotels boast well-deserved editorial reviews for their luxury amenities and services. Amangiri Resort, for one, provides celebrity-level exclusivity, and Sorrel River Ranch Resort & Spa is one Moab resort featuring wine tasting, yoga retreats and an on-site farm and garden.

Glamping offers the best of both worlds: camping and luxe amenities. Most glamping spots have beds and sturdy tents, but some also have en-suite restrooms, in-tent wood-burning stoves, electricity and guided adventure packages. Book Open Sky Zion or Zion White Bison Glamping near Zion or Under Canvas to experience glamping near Bryce, Zion or Moab.

Fortunately, a romantic getaway to the desert doesn’t have to cost a fortune. There are cozy inns near Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Kanab, Escalante and Boulder; resorts and ranches in East Zion; cottages and vacation rentals in Torrey near Capitol Reef (Red Sands Hotel & Spa and the Lodge at Red River Ranch); remote resorts near Monument Valley (Bluff Dwellings Resort & Spa); and a plethora of lodging options in St. George and Springdale.

Don’t forget the most affordable romantic option: a two-person tent at any desert campsite.

Desert Dates for Cozy Couple Time

The desert sets a perfect stage for a rendezvous — think all-day Vitamin D, pink sunsets and fresh dry air. Whether recharging or looking for adventure, Southern Utah offers stunning scenic drives, Southwestern-inspired cuisine, welcoming towns and sensational scenery in every direction.

Romantic Small-Town Getaways

What’s more romantic than a cozy, small-town getaway surrounded by gorgeous scenery? Book a stay at the charming Compass Rose Lodge in Huntsville, just minutes from Snowbasin Resort, and explore the beautiful Ogden Valley. Midway’s Blue Boar Inn offers an old-world, European chalet experience with meticulously decorated rooms and an award-winning restaurant. Art City Inn in Springville’s Historic District is a beautifully maintained Victorian inn with beautiful suites updated with modern amenities. If you’re planning a Southern Utah National Parks trip, the Canyons Hotel in Kanab is the perfect luxurious base camp.

Vibrant City Getaways

From fine dining and entertainment to art museums, shopping, bars, clubs and coffee shops — all with mountain views — Salt Lake City is the vibrant hub of Northern Utah that makes for a fabulous romantic city getaway. Stay in the middle of all the action at the five-star Grand America Hotel, a luxury hotel built in 2001 to accommodate the 2002 Olympics, or at the chic new Hyatt Regency or Asher Adams Hotel. If you want to go south, you can still have a metropolitan experience in a smaller city, St. George and Cedar City both offer high-end lodging options in the middle of a bustling environment.

Salt Lake City to St. George: City Date Night Ideas

Staying near any of Utah’s major cities means you’ve got plenty of options for a romantic date night. While we can’t possibly name all of them, here are a few suggestions for a great day, night (or both) on the town.

  • Book tickets to the theater or a live music concert. From Ogden to St. George, the performing arts scene in Utah is top-of-the-line. Experience the passion of the Utah Opera and Symphony, the elegance of the award-winning Ballet West dance company, the magic of a Broadway production at Tuacahn Center for the Arts or the drama of classical theater at the renowned Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.
  • Catch a Utah Jazz or Utah Hockey Club game at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, or take a quick drive to America First Field in Sandy to watch a Real Salt Lake soccer game.
  • Relax at a luxury spa — whether it’s a high-end day spa in Salt Lake City or one of the many immersive spa resorts in St. George.
  • Dine at a popular Utah restaurant. Northern Utah boasts a buzzy and ever-evolving metropolitan food scene. In Southern Utah, offerings include family-owned, community favorites and distinctive fine-dining options such as St. George’s Painted Pony Restaurant, Wood Ash Rye, Anasazi Grill and Cliffside Restaurant.
  • Enjoy museums and galleries in various Utah cities. Salt Lake City includes the Utah Museum of Fine Art, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and Natural History Museum of Utah. Explore the Southern Utah Museum of Art or the Kolob Gallery in Cedar City. Find a variety of museums in St. George, including historic pioneer homes, art galleries and exhibits dedicated to wildlife and aviation.
  • Book a tee time at one of St. George’s many public and private golf courses. The best part? Weather is no issue. Thanks to St. George’s mild winters, golf is a year-round sport and courses are open for 300+ days of the year.
