Nearby Campgrounds

If you want to camp outside of the monument, there are plenty of options at Kodachrome Basin and Escalante Petrified Forest State Parks for tent or RV camping. It’s an 18-minute drive from Kodachrome Basin to Grand Staircase-Escalante and only 11 minutes from Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. 

Kodachrome Basin State Park

Basin Campground

As the name suggests, Basin Campground is located right at the head of the basin and surrounded by beautiful white hills. It offers a great view of one of the park’s many famous sandpipes and is within walking distance of most hiking trails.

Bryce View Campground

The Bryce View Campground offers great views of Bryce Canyon’s pink ledges in the distance, spectacular up-close views of sandpipes and sandstone and is a great place to watch the sunset.

  • Four people per campsite
  • Hookup sites accommodate camping vehicles up to 22 feet

Arch Campground

The Arch Campground is about half a mile from the visitor center down a quarter-mile gravel road on the park's East side. This campground offers six reservable water and power sites for smaller RVs and trailers.

  • Hookup sites accommodate camping vehicles up to 40 feet

Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

Enjoy camping amongst incredible fossilized trees or on the banks of Wide Hollow Reservoir at Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. There are 14 basic campgrounds, eight partial-hookup sites and one group site.

When To Visit, Pet Policies and Other Things To Know

  • If you want to avoid extreme weather, late spring and early-to-mid autumn are the perfect times to enjoy camping in Grand Staircase-Escalante and the surrounding areas. 

  • Grand Staircase-Escalante is a great place to explore with four-legged travel buddies. Dogs are allowed on a leash (maximum of six feet) in the monument campgrounds and the nearby state parks. Always clean up after your pets and follow responsible travel guidelines.
